Portrait Drawing in watercolor

Below is my watercolor drawing progress of my little niece portrait. As usual, i quickly sketched the facial expression based on the photo. And i always enjoy using pen to sketch anything especially portrait drawing. Below is the process of the whole watercolor drawing.

A quick sketch using ink pen.

Apply the yellow color lightly for background, skin, hair.

Next, apply the light yellowish brown (mixed it with yellow to produce a lighter brown)

Apply more yellowish brown, layering it.

Apply another brown for the darker part as well as red color.

Apply brown and black for the hair.... lightly.

Adding some drawing in the background and applying light blue for the clothes.

Final touch up includes darker tones.

This is just a quick watercolor drawing demonstration which took me only 10 mins for the sketching and the rest of 30-40mins for the watercolor. If you took more time, you will surely produce a better portrait drawing. Remember, practice is important.

Exercise: Now you can quickly grab any of ur favorite self-portrait and do your own self-portrait drawing in any color medium. You can either send a copy of your drawing (in jpeg file) by emailing me at thebabehs@gmail.com or give your link in the comment before 30th August 2008.

be back soon with my scrapbooking LO :o)
